Urban Geology Gems: A Geological Walking Tour of Academy Street, Inglis Street & High Street
August 27, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeDoors Open Days Highland and Inverness Townscape Heritage Project invite you to take a fresh look at the geology used in the buildings of Inverness City Centre. Expert geologist Andy Moffat will guide you to the city’s oldest decorative stone and will take you on a virtual walk around the world, ranging from Nairn, Hopeman, Brora, Caithness and reaching as far as Rajasthan, Oslo, Italy and beyond! Learn about the wide variety of materials as you walk through the streets, such as sandstone, granite, Rustenburg gabbro, dolomite, monzonite, larvikite and more.
Andy has a lifelong interest in geology and an extensive career as a geologist, taking him from deserts to deep waters, working with stones as young as four million years, to those as old as three billion.
The same event is running on two separate dates: either 27 or 29 August.
Although these tours are free, places must be booked via https://www.eventbrite.com/e/urban-geology-gems-a-geological-walking-tour-of-academy-street-inglis-street-high-street-tickets-65027375631 and the walking tours are suitable for adults over 16 years old – full joining instructions will be issued via separate email upon booking.
