Josephine Tey’s “Kif” and the Academy Street photo of the 1914 August Madness
Monday 11 November, 2-3pm, Town House, Inverness
The Inverness Townscape Heritage Project proudly invites you to join them on 11 November at 2pm to explore the connections behind this iconic WWI photo taken on Academy Street in August 1914. Come and hear how this image of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, taken during the “August Madness”, inspired enigmatic local author Josephine Tey in her first novel “Kif”.
This free talk will be given by local writer, Jennifer Morag Henderson, who is the first biographer of Inverness novelist and playwright Josephine Tey. Jennifer has meticulously researched her subject and has lectured and written extensively about Tey’s life, crime fiction and theatre work, including articles for the BBC and Northwords Now.
In this talk, Jennifer will honour the soldiers who bravely left Inverness to fight for their King and country and will explore the link between one of the soldiers in the photo, who inspired Tey’s first novel, Kif and Tey’s links with Academy Street.
Complimentary refreshments will be served from 1:45pm.
