Heritage Engagement; Merkinch Primary School

High Life Highland and AOC are working with pupils at Merkinch Primary School, offering a series of four to six sessions. Activity is curriculum linked and tailored to the needs of the class in discussion with teaching staff. Sessions will explore the development of Inverness as a city and Academy Street as an urban landscape. Activity will take place in summer and autumn term 2017, with pupils planning their trip to Academy Street and taking part in observation and recording of features of the street. Pupils will seek the creatures, mythical or real, carved in the stone of the buildings, imagining them as observers and narrators of the life of the street. Creative responses by pupils are a key element of the project, and will inform and contribute to the content of the digital trail. The sessions will culminate in a joint celebration and sharing event, bringing together the schools and their communities, increasing their engagement with Academy Street, their heritage, and their role in society as citizens of Inverness.
